Why we’re building Claire

First, let us explain why we’ve started building Claire. Claire is an AI copilot designed to streamline your grading workflow. Our goal is to help you grade faster, be more consistent, and provide personalized feedback to students without adding to your workload.

We believe technology, and more specifically, AI, are destined to help us leverage synergies and scale, and augment our expertise and productivity. But for high-trust environments such as grading and feedback, we need a human-centered and responsible approach — one that is transparent and easy to govern. Most grading and feedback tools don’t fit into that category.

And that’s why we’ve built Claire, the first truly responsible AI tool for grading and feedback.

Quick start

How to get started with Claire as quickly as possible.

  1. Add a course: Go to the Courses page and add a new course.

  2. Create an assessment: Create a new assessment (assignment, exam or academic paper). Upload the instructions you gave to your students as well as your grading rubric.

  3. Upload a submission: Go to your Todo inbox and upload a submission. When the upload dialog shows, link your submission to the newly created assessment.

  4. Review the submission: Open the submission in the Reading or Rubric View, add your own comments and grading remarks or use our AI suggestions to speed up your workflow.

  5. Generate reports: Click on Generate reports to generate the grading and feedback report.

  6. Determine a grade: Input the final grade into the respective field in the right bottom corner.

  7. Publish feedback: Click on Publish feedback to share the feedback with your student.

Best practices

  • Familiarize yourself with Keyboard shortcuts to speed up your workflow.

  • Add context to your annotations (Annotate submissions) to improve AI feedback quality.

  • Regularly check AI suggestions — they help catch details and save time.

  • If in doubt, Chat with a document to make sure you’re not missing any crucial detail.
